This cheesy ground beef hotdish (with hidden liver) is an easy animal-based meal with minimal ingredients.
We’re trying to include beef organs in our diet, so we’re starting small (and easy) by adding frozen liver cubes to our meals.
If you’d like to learn how I freeze our liver cubes, check out this recipe!

Here’s all you need:
- 2 cups (cooked) butternut squash
- 2 lbs ground beef (cooked)
- 1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 beef liver cube (see how I make our frozen beef liver cubes here)
- salt to taste

Here’s how we make it:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Spread the squash on the bottom of an 8×8 baking dish
- Then add a layer of cheese (about 1/4 cup)
- Pour 2 tbsp of melted butter over the cheese
- Add the cooked ground beef as the next layer
- top with the remaining cheese
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until cheese is fully melted
- Enjoy!
